Summer Science - Summer 2024
hosted by Cama Beach Foundation
Activity Schedule and Location
TBD
TBD
Here are examples of past activities:
Cyanotypes
Learn about the Electromagnetic Spectrum and how scientists use different wavelengths of light to create images of objects in space. Explore an early process of photography “cyanotyping” by creating your very own cyanotype using objects provided or found in nature!
Fling Flyers
Drop in to make your own rubberband-powered “supersonic fling flyer” of the Concorde or M-21 Blackbird, both of which are in The Museum of Flight’s collection! You can even try making your own paper glider design to test!
Flying Contraptions
During this fun workshop, participants will build different contraptions using basic household materials and fly them in our portable wind tubes. Design, test, and rebuild as needed in order to investigate how changing the design and materials of your contraption can affect its flight. Best for kids 7 and older.
STEM Greeting Cards
Many STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) careers use graphing to compare information or represent data visually. Graphing, an important math skill, can also be used to make something fun and colorful. Make your own card, or picture, of something found in nature!
Suited for Space
How do we protect an astronaut in a low-pressure environment? Participants will design pressure suits for a marshmallow astronaut using household materials, and then test their designs in our portable vacuum chamber. Will your marshmallow astronaut survive the vacuum of space? Best for kids 11 and over.
