#CatchMoreCrabSnoCo

Our friends next door in Snohomish County interviewed expert crabbers and then compiled tips to #CatchMoreCrabSnoCo. Luckily for us these tips work just as well off Cama Beach and Camano Island State Parks.

The Snohomish County Marine Resources Committee also set up
Instagram hashtags so you can share how you are an expert, too.

Tips To #CatchMoreCrabSnoCo
Use these tips from the experts to keep your crab pots and #CatchMoreCrabSnoCo!

Instagram Users: upload your photos to Instagram using the hashtag #CatchMoreCrabSnoCo plus at least one of the tip hashtags below:
  1. Know if the tide is rising or falling   |   #CheckedTides
Keeping tabs on the tides will give you an idea of how much line to use.
  2. Know the direction of the current   |   #CheckedCurrent
If your pot is swept away by currents, you'll know which direction to look.
  3. Add weight to your pot   |   #WeightedPot
The more weight attached to your pot, the less likely it'll be swept away by current
  4. Use longer line   |   #LongerLine
The longer the line, the less likely your crab pot will be lost if currents sweep it to a deeper location.
  5. Use an additional high visibility buoy   |   #HighVisBuoy
If your pot moves, or the waters get rough, a high visibility buoy will help you locate your pot.
  6. Avoid high traffic areas   |   #AvoidHighTraffic
Avoiding high traffic areas will reduce the chances that your line gets severed or snagged.
  7. Use weighted line   |   #WeightedLine
Lines that aren't weighted may float at the surface, and are at risk of being cut by a propeller.
  8. Watch your pots   |   #WatchingPots
It's simple! Those who watch their crab pots rarely lose them!
