CASHIERS AT THE CAMA BEACH STORE
During the summer, the Cama Beach Store is open seven days a week from 10 am to 4 pm. To staff the store we have two 3-hour shifts each day - that's 14 shifts each week that need to be staffed. During the "shoulder seasons" (April, May, September, October, and December) the store is only open on Saturdays so we have 8 shifts per month (or 10 if there are five Saturdays).
If you like to meet people and see yourself selling lots of bubble gum, ice cream, and other gifts to really friendly campers and day visitors ...
this positions is made for you!
Season/Time Commitment: one 3-hour shift per week during June, July, August.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES AT THE CAMA BEACH STORE
There are several other important tasks that need to be done to keep the store running smoothly. For more info please contact Janet at (360) 387-2062 or earthcards07@gmail.com:
1. Ice Cream Buyer – Monitor the ice cream inventory, place orders, pick up orders in Burlington. Place cases of ice cream in CBF’s large freezer on the back deck. The Ice cream buyer does not need to stock the freezer inside the store - this task is done be the Merchandise Stockers.
Season/Time Commitment: Ice cream orders are typically placed once a week during the summer, less often in Spring and Fall when store is only open on Saturdays. Round trip travel time from Cama Beach SP to Burlington and back is about 2 hours. Mileage is reimbursed.
2. Bagged Ice Buyer – Pick up bags of ice from the Camp Host at neighboring Camano Island SP. Place bags in CBF’s large freezer on the back deck. Maintain paper log of number of bags acquired (this is used to reimburse State Parks at the end of summer).
Season/Time Commitment: Typically once a week during the summer. Each ice pick up takes about 1 hour.
3. Assistant Buyer – This person is responsible for purchasing perishables such as chips, beverages, non-frozen dairy products. Assists Lead Buyer with decisions about what merchandise to purchase, assists with checking in purchased merchandise, maintains Excel spreadsheet of inventory with wholesale and retail prices.
Season/Time Commitment: Some items are ordered online and delivered to the park, but most perishables are purchased in-person locally. Buying of perishables occurs throughout the year but mostly in Feb, Mar, Apr. Mileage is reimbursed.
4. Merchandise Pricer & Shelf Stocker – To price items this person uses a spreadsheet created by the Lead Buyer to determine retail price of each item then uses price tag gun to mark merchandise. After pricing merchandise is returned to the shipping container for the stockers. The other part of this position involves checking merchandise levels out in the store and restocks shelves as needed.
Season/Time Commitment: New merchandise needing to be priced arrives throughout the year but mostly in Spring and Summer. Assessing merchandise levels and restocking is necessary occurs at least twice a week during the Summer.
5. Cashier Coordinator – During the Summer the store is open seven days a week so there are 14 3-hour shifts. During the Summer the store is open seven days a week so there are 14 3-hour shifts. There's a primary cashier for each shift but when the primary cashier can't do their normal shift the Cashier Coordinator needs to find a sub. The Cashier Coordinator also provides small group and one-on-one training of cashiers during their first couple shifts of the season. Also assists the Store Manager with the annual "Cama 101" orientation session (about 2 hours) that's offered to all CBF volunteers.
Season/Time Commitment: Ensuring that all shifts are covered is a task that can be done from home using email. During the summer there are 14 shifts each week and typically at least one shift needs a sub. During spring, fall, and December the store is only open on Saturdays so there are 8 or 10 shifts per month.
6. Assistant Banker – The “store banks” used by the cashiers need to be reset twice a week. The Assistant Banker takes over when the Primary Banker is not available. In addition to resetting the store banks, the store proceeds must be deposited at the local bank located at Terry's Corner. Uses Excel to keep records of total sales (including amounts taxed and not taxed). Emails data to the CBF Bookkeeper.
Season/Time Commitment: including travel time to transmit the proceeds to the local bank, about 2 hours each time the store banks are reset. As During the summer months banks are typically reset twice a week.
7. Store Manager – Coordinates and supports efforts of Cashier Coordinator and the Lead Buyer. Liaison between CBF and Parks' Interpretive Specialist. Liaison with CBF’s Financial team (the Treasurer & Bookkeeper). Attends to operation and maintenance of store infrastructure and equipment.
Season/Time Commitment: There's some level of store activity each month, however, June, July, and August are the busiest times since the store is open 7 days/week and Store Manager duties required approximately 12-16 hours per week. The Store Managers’ duties drop considerably in April, May, September, October, and December when the store is only open on Saturdays. The store is closed during the Winter (November, January, February, and March), but some coordination with the Lead Buyer continues throughout the Winter and with the Cashier Coordinator in February and March.
