Tidal Trivia

2/18/2015

Tonight, Wed, Feb 18, at 10:23 pm the low tide at Cama will be a -1.5 ft. Then the next high tide will be Thur morning at 5:14 am, that will be a +12.5 ft King Tide.

That’s a whopping 14 foot swing in just 7 hours. Don’t try going through Deception Pass against that current unless you’ve got lots of horsepower!

King Tides

Some of the highest tides of the year occur each winter. These tides, referred to as “King Tides”, occur naturally when the sun and the moon align, causing an increased gravitational pull on Earth’s oceans.

Help the Washington Dept of Ecology collect photos of highest winter tides along Washington's shorelines, estuaries and coastal communities. All the instructions can be found at: www.ecy.wa.gov/climatechange/ipa_hightide.htm.
